CPAP Treatment

CPAP therapy is the most effective noninvasive treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. The CPAP Pro systems consist of several CPAP accessories: CPAP Pro machines (flow generators), air tubing and a CPAP headgear (usually a nasal mask). The CPAP Pro machine pushes air through the tubing and nasal mask.

The air passes through your nose and into the throat, where the slight pressure keeps the upper airway open. The low air pressure does not interfere with breathing though some patients need a few nights to get used to the sensation of positive airflow. Many clinicians describe the CPAP PRO therapy as a pneumatic splint, literally meaning an air splint to hold an open throat.

The pneumatically splinted upper airway process is performed when the tongue and soft tissue have fallen to the back of the throat, but the pressure of the air pumped in by the CPAP Pro machine holds the upper airway open.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome is a sleep disorder which characterized by obstruction of upper airways. Obstructive sleep apnea usually associated with a reduction in blood oxygen saturation. In this situation the airway becomes obstructed at several possible sites.

The upper airway can be obstructed by excess tissue in the airway, large tonsils and large tongue. It also includes the airway muscles relaxing and collapsing during sleep. Another site of obstruction can be the nasal passages.

The S8 series features the smallest CPAP machines available. These advanced CPAP Pro devices are lightweight, comfortable to use, easy to carry and fit all CPAP accessories including an applicable humidifier. The S8 CPAP machines series is guaranteed to satisfy all SDB patients and help them get over their sleep disorders with an efficient and quiet treatment. About ResMed™

ResMed™ (just to clarify- this site doesn't belong to them, it belongs to Power Positioning Ltd) is a leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of products for the screening, treatment and long-term management of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB), and other respiratory disorders. ResMed operates in over 65 countries via 16 direct offices and a network of distributors with extensive knowledge and experience of local markets.

ResMed™ was founded in 1989 and its primary purpose was to commercialize a device for treating obstructive sleep apnea, a major subset of SDB. Developed in 1981 by Professor Colin Sullivan and colleagues at the University of Sydney, nasal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) provided the first successful noninvasive treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. Since 1989, ResMed has maintained its focus on SDB, which is gaining greater public and physician awareness. Operations have grown dramatically through the introduction of a number of highly innovative product lines.
ResMed specializes in developing and manufacturing CPAP Pro equipment including CPAP Pro machines, CPAP masks and CPAP accessories for home use as well as for clinics, sleeping labs and hospitals.

SDB affects around 20% of the adult population, making it as widespread as diabetes or asthma. However, awareness to the danger of sleep disorders is still low and it is believed that about 90% of the people who have obstructive sleep apnea remain undiagnosed and untreated. Along with an increasing understanding of the morbidity and mortality caused by obstructive sleep apnea and other SDB, this discrepancy has created one of the fastest growing segments of the respiratory industry. ResMed™ is positioned to meet the growing challenges of this under-penetrated market.

ResMed™ is committed to increasing education and awareness of the serious health consequences of untreated SDB among both the general public and physicians. The company's extensive geographical coverage allows it to work progressively towards this awareness. ResMed has established foundations in both Australia and the United States and is funding a public relations program in several countries to publicize the dangers of undiagnosed sleep-disordered breathing.

ResMed™ continues to invest approximately 6% of revenues in research and product development, demonstrating its commitment to continuing global leadership in sleep medicine based on innovative technologies.

ResMed’s team is focused on developing innovative therapies that increase patient comfort and convenience while improving health. ResMed™ has a team of over 2000 people based around the globe. Everyone in this team is working to help the millions of people suffering from SDB and other respiratory disorders, to educate the medical community and public about the dangers of untreated SDB, to strengthen its global operations and to deliver the very best products to SDB patients.

In addition, the company has a senior management team with extensive experience in the SDB field and the medical device industry in general. It also leverages the knowledge and expertise of its Medical Advisory Board, which consists of leading SDB experts.
